Helper sign-ups are basically laid out in 3-hour shifts. We prefer you to work AT LEAST 3 hours at a time, if possible. Discuss with Gina if these times do not work for you. Time slots may be modified to fit your schedule! There are 4 levels of helpers:
Part-time Helpers: At least 6 total hours (or just work 5 hours during one of the bonus shifts, giving you credit for 6 hours). These helpers get to early shop at 4 pm, Friday, September 1, AND get to early clearance shop at 5 PM, Thursday, September 7. (ONLY ONE PERSON/SHOPPER ADMITTED PER TICKET!)
Mid-Level Helpers: At least 12 total hours. These workers get to early shop at 1 PM, Friday, September 1, AND get to early clearance shop at 3 PM, Thursday, September 7. These workers earn 75% of their sales!* (ONLY ONE PERSON/SHOPPER ADMITTED PER TICKET!) See note below.
Full-Time Helpers: At least 24 total hours (please sign up for AT LEAST 3 hours of your total during Sorting Day, which is Sunday, September 10). These workers get to early shop at 6 p.m., Thursday, August 31, AND get to clearance shop at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 7. These workers earn 85% of their sales.*(ONLY ONE PERSON/SHOPPER ADMITTED PER TICKET!) See note below.
Full-Time PLUS Helpers: At least 39 total hours (please sign up for AT LEAST 3 hours of your total during Sorting Day, which is Sunday, September 10). These workers get to early shop at 5 p.m., Thursday, August 31, AND get to clearance shop at Noon on Thursday, September 7. These workers earn 100% of their sales.* See note below.
*NOTE: This extra percentage only applies to first $500 gross sales; after that, the normal 70/30 split applies!
In addition to designating the above four levels of helpers, we implemented rules in attempt to be fair to each and every helper and to improve the early shopping experience for all:
Only one person/shopper will be admitted per early shopping pass! If your spouse, older child, mother, sister, friend, etc., wants to early shop, he or she must earn an early shopping pass by being a consignor or helper. It is fine for one person to work the helper hours "for" another person.
Exception: Nursing mothers may wear/carry non-walking infants, if necessary. For the safety of your children and for a more relaxed shopping experience for all, please arrange for childcare on this day. Tip: Bring your child's measurements and a measuring tape.
Another benefit for HELPERS: ONLY helpers may bring their own children who are under the age of 21 for "trying on purposes," ONLY DURING THE LAST HALF of their specified Preview Sale time. The Helper Parent is responsible for closely supervising them! Children 21 or older must earn their own helper passes to shop the Preview Sale.
Absolutely NO piling/stashing or grouping things you want before your early shop time! Same holds true on early clearance shopping day (NO shopping may begin before your designated time).
Why Be A Helper?
AVOID THE CROWD!!!
EARLY SHOPPING! Want to get the best selection at the best prices? Work 6 or more hours before (promoting or set-up), during, and/or after (breakdown) the sale and shop before the crowd! See available helper shifts and sign up through your Consignor Homepage through midnight on August 23. If it's after midnight on August 23, you must sign up or make changes at the sale location. (If you are not going to be a consignor at this sale, you can still help! Just scroll to the bottom of this page to view shifts and sign up to help.)YOU will LOVE early shopping!
Full-time PLUS, Full-time, and Mid-level Helpers (see below) may split their hours with someone else, but only ONE person gets to shop the Helper Sale! Dads, grandmothers, friends, etc., can help you achieve your hours!
Get a chance to earn MORE than 70%!* Full-time Plus (39 hour) helpers earn 100% of their sales.* Full-time (24 hour) helpers earn 85% of their sales.* Mid-level (12 hour) helpers earn 75% of their sales.*
* Extra percentage applies to the first $500 gross sales; past that, the normal 70/30 split applies.
Make new friends as you perform fun, simple work. Work instructions will be provided by email when you register and/or upon arrival.
Helper slots begin in early August and continue through the sale (See Below). Note: You do NOT have to have your hours completed before your early shopping time! Think about it, MANY hours of help are available/needed between then and September 13. There are SO many opportunities to achieve your hours!
Bonus Shifts** are available. Each one of our helpers is an integral part of the success of The Marketplace to our community. It is so important that you arrive to the shifts you sign up for on time and are prepared to dedicate yourself to performing sale tasks during these times. Please make backup plans for your slots in case of emergencies. If you must switch times after you've signed up to be on the schedule, contact Gina ASAP! Please be prepared by bringing drinks, snacks, work clothes, comfortable shoes, etc.
**Bonus Shift, where designated, means helpers who work at least 5 hours at that time earn an extra bonus hour, therefore crediting you with 6 hours!
PLEASE DO NOT BRING CHILDREN DURING YOUR WORK SHIFT!!! Responsible older teenagers may be helpers and earn their own helper passes/benefits; however, Helper teens under the age of 18 may count their totals at half time and should be supervised by an adult.
Helper Parking: To save parking for those dropping off and/or shopping, please plan to park in farther away, alternate spaces. These could include beside/behind the building, in the gravel parking lot behind the Cowan Visitor's Center, or on the far side of the big parking lot.
